Erbil: Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al Zaidi ordered today the formation of an investigative committee to determine the source of the attack targeting the private office of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the region's intelligence director in Erbil.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Prime Minister's Media Office stated that the committee would investigate the circumstances of the attack, identify its sources and points of origin, and hold those responsible accountable. The Prime Minister has mandated that the findings of the investigation be disclosed to the public promptly.
The statement emphasized that the committee would scrutinize the attack's details to prepare for any necessary actions against those responsible.
In response to the incident, the Iraqi Parliament Presidency denounced the attack, labeling it a dangerous and unacceptable development that undermines Iraq's sovereignty, the security of its citizens, and the stability of its institutions. They reiterated that the security of the Kurdistan Region is an integral component of Iraq's security, and any targeting of the country's territory, officials, or institutions is intolerable under any circumstances.
Additionally, US President's Special Envoy to Iraq Tom Barrack condemned the attack and expressed full support for the Iraqi leadership in its efforts to reclaim Iraq's full sovereignty and ensure that all weapons and security forces operate under the authority of the Iraqi state.
Earlier, the Kurdistan Region's Counter-Terrorism Service reported that the office of Kurdistan's Regional Government Prime Minister Barzani in Erbil was targeted in the morning by two explosive-laden Hadid-110 drones, allegedly launched from the Iranian side. The service confirmed that the drones targeted the private office of the Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister and the residence of the director of the region's security services in Pirmam, located in northern Iraq.
