Ramallah: Since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, the number of arrests in the West Bank has risen to approximately 17,500, including 545 women and about 1,400 children.
According to Qatar News Agency, Palestinian prisoner organizations, including the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority, Palestinian Prisoners Society, and Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights, stated in a joint report that 488 arrests were recorded in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, during the month of May alone. Among those arrested were 39 children and 23 women.
The organizations clarified that the figures include individuals who are still held in detention as well as those who were later released. They stressed that the numbers do not encompass the thousands arrested in Gaza.
These organizations also noted that the number of administrative detainees as of early June reached 3,562. Additionally, the number of detainees from Gaza classified as ‘illegal combatants’ stood at 2,214. They added that this figure does not cover all Gaza detainees held in Israeli camps.
The total number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons by early June exceeded 10,400. This figure does not include those held in camps run by the Israeli military.
