Italian FM Emphasizes Transatlantic Alliance with US and Europe

Rome: Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated that Italy will continue to foster a robust relationship between Europe and the United States. “We must not worry, but take care. Take care of keeping alive the traditional relationship of transatlantic alliance between the USA and Europe because we are essential to each other, and above all take care of making the EU take a qualitative leap forward,” Tajani said in a statement.

According to Qatar News Agency, Tajani highlighted the importance of strengthening European defence alongside political and economic advancements. He stressed the necessity of increasing defence expenditure to 2% of GDP, advocating for its separation from the Stability Pact. Addressing the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, Tajani clarified that Italian military forces will not participate in front-line missions in Ukraine, either through NATO or European operations. However, he noted that a UN mission could potentially serve as an interposition force once peace is achieved.

Tajani reiterated Italy’s commitment to establishing a solid relationship between Europe and the USA, emphasizing the need for unified European efforts in common trade policies. “We need to take action together politically and strategically. Only in this way can we succeed,” he added, underlining the significance of collaboration for achieving shared goals.
