Doha: Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni affirmed today that combating irregular migration is a central priority for her government. In a speech before the Italian Senate, Meloni noted that the adopted strategy has led to tangible results, including a reduction in the number of illegal arrivals and a decline in the number of deaths and missing persons at sea.
According to Qatar News Agency, she said that these outcomes are a source of pride, as saving lives and rescuing people from human traffickers is among the most noble of missions. She added that her government had the courage to launch a new phase in handling the migration file, both within Italy and at the European level.
