Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba urged leaders from the Group of Seven nations to maintain unity in efforts to bring peace to Ukraine. This call was made during a virtual meeting held to mark three years since the onset of Russia’s invasion.
According to Qatar News Agency, Ishiba emphasized the importance of ensuring that the peace process does not convey a “wrong lesson” that altering the status quo by force is acceptable. He expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts, including those led by the United States, would be successful in facilitating the end of the conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy conveyed his hope for continued support from the G7 nations, as reported by Ishiba. The Group of Seven includes Japan, Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, the United States, and the European Union.
Ishiba reiterated during the meeting that the G7 should remain united to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. He affirmed Japan’s commitment to supporting Ukraine and maintaining sanctions on Russia.
