Jordan, Spain FMs Discuss Regional De-escalation Efforts

Jordan: Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares held discussions on Sunday regarding efforts to end the escalating crisis in the region and restore security and stability. The talks emphasized the importance of adhering to international law and the principles of good neighborliness.

According to Qatar News Agency, during the call, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and several Arab countries. He also highlighted the importance of halting Israeli aggression against Lebanon and supporting the Lebanese government’s efforts to assert its sovereignty, strengthen state institutions, and ensure that arms remain exclusively in the hands of the state.

Separately, Safadi met with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christophe Bigot to discuss the situation in Lebanon. He emphasized the need to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ensure the full implementation of agreed arrangements, and facilitate the delivery of sustainable humanitarian aid to address the ongoing crisis.

Safadi further stressed the necessity of concerted international efforts to stop Israel’s illegal measures in the occupied West Bank, warning that such actions undermine the two-state solution and the prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace. He also cautioned against restrictions on freedom of worship for Muslims and Christians in the occupied Palestinian territory and actions that violate the historical and legal status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem.

Additionally, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of measures preventing Muslims from performing religious rites at Al-Aqsa Mosque, affirming that the site is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims and is administered by the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, which is affiliated with Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
