Kaaba Kiswa to be Replaced on Wednesday

The General Presidency of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque is scheduled to replace the Kaaba kiswa (cloth) on Wednesday by 130 technicians and manufacturers, as is the annual custom.

The old kiswa will be replaced under the supervision of General President for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and Prophet’s Mosque Sheikh Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais.

Al-Sudais stressed the wise leadership’s care for Kaaba, in the service of Islam and Muslims.

The King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa employs more than 200 employees, both manufacturers and administrators, in its departments, including dyeing, automatic and manual weaving, the printing, belt, gilding, sewing and kiswa assembly section, which contains the largest sewing machine in the world, 16 meters in length, run by computers, and supporting sections, such as: laboratory, administrative services, quality, public relations, health and vocational safety.

To make the kiswa, there is need of some 670 kilograms of raw silk that is dyed black, 120 kilograms of gold wires and 100 kilograms of silver wires.
