Katara Opens “Mark and Memory” Stamp Exhibition Showcasing Cultural Heritage

Doha:The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), in collaboration with the Qatar Philatelic and Numismatic Center, inaugurated the "Mark and Memory" stamp exhibition at Building 22. The exhibition will be open to the public until December 3.

According to Qatar News Agency, the exhibition is part of Katara's initiative to preserve cultural heritage and emphasizes the role of postage stamps as historical documents. These stamps serve as visual records that capture the social and cultural lives of people, thus preserving their collective memory.

The exhibition's title, "Mark and Memory," symbolizes two intertwined concepts "Mark," which signifies the enduring imprint of past generations, and "Memory," which relates to the cultural and human heritage conveyed through customs, traditions, values, and stories.

The exhibition showcases stamps that depict various elements of heritage, including customs and traditions, traditional clothing, and the popular professions and crafts that were integral to the daily lives and livelihoods of previous generations. Additionally, it features traditional jewelry and ornaments, folk music and arts, as well as pearl diving and its associated tools, highlighting the economic and social significance of this craft in Gulf history prior to the oil discovery.
