Beirut: Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun underlined his country's commitment to the deal reached in November 2024 with Israel, despite breaches of this agreement by the occupation forces.
According to Qatar News Agency, during his meeting with Netherlands' Minister of Defence, Ruben Brekelmans, Aoun said the Israeli occupation continues to violate the deal and international resolutions, particularly Resolution 1701, by pursuing belligerent acts and bombing Lebanese territories, specifically in the south and Beqaa, in addition to holding the Lebanese prisoners.
Aoun said European support for Lebanon is essential, and a stable Lebanon is a foremost interest for Europe. He added that Beirut looks forward to an effective role by European countries to compel the occupation to halt its assaults, withdraw from the occupied territories, and terminate the status quo.
For his part, Brekelmans affirmed that his country is determined to back the Lebanese military and Lebanon, in addition to encouraging investment there. He stressed the importance of finalizing the overhauls the Lebanese government has embarked on.
