Doha: Olympique de Marseille announced on Tuesday that it had parted ways with its manager, Habib Beye, just over four months after the former Senegal international took charge of the first team.
According to Qatar News Agency, the French club said in a statement published across its official social media channels that the contract was terminated by mutual consent. Club officials noted that the team's performance last season fell short of expectations after Marseille finished fifth in Ligue 1, failing to achieve its primary objective of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
Beye, a former Marseille captain, took over the managerial duties in February, succeeding the Italian tactician Roberto De Zerbi, who had vacated the position earlier that month.
The manager's departure comes at a difficult time for Marseille, which was hit last week with financial restrictions by the DNCG, French football's financial watchdog. The measures include salary-cap limits and strict monitoring of transfer fees-regulatory sanctions the club previously faced during the summer of 2021 and the winter of 2023.
Marseille is scheduled to kick off its 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign on Aug. 22 against Strasbourg.
