Doha: The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) is hosting a series of film screenings titled 'Social Scenes' from May 5 to May 10, 2025, as part of Qatar Museums' Years of Culture Initiative.
According to Qatar News Agency, the event is organized by the Doha Film Institute (DFI) and focuses on contemporary films from Argentina and Chile, highlighting masterpieces from the past five years. These films offer new insights into the social and political scenes in these nations. The screenings are part of the Qatar-Argentina-Chile Cultural Year Activities and explore themes such as family, identity, memory, and national history.
The film series includes two DFI-supported films from Chile: "Chile '76," which was screened at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and directed by Chilean filmmaker Manuela Martelli, and "The Eternal Memory" (La Memoria Infinita), directed by Maite Alberdi, which is scheduled to be shown this evening.
