Geneva: HE Minister of Labour, Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, conducted separate high-level discussions with HE Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo; Assistant Director-General and Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Beate Andrees; and Assistant Director-General for Governance, Rights, and Dialogue, Manuela Tomei. The meetings were part of His Excellency's official visit to the ILO headquarters.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions centered around implementing the third phase of the joint work programme between the State of Qatar and the ILO, as well as reviewing the progress achieved so far. The meetings also explored ways to strengthen cooperation, particularly in capacity-building and training initiatives for Qatar's labour sector specialists.
In March 2024, the State of Qatar and the ILO signed a four-year extension of their joint work programme. This extension aims to enhance the work environment, improve the competitiveness of the national workforce, and align training programmes with the demands of the labour market. It aligns with Qatar's national workforce priorities under Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), with a focus on private-sector employment opportunities for nationals and workforce skills development.
The third phase of the programme is designed to support the labour sector objectives outlined in the National Development Strategy. It focuses on modernising workforce policies, strengthening labour market institutions, and enhancing the competitiveness of Qatari cadres.
