Minister of State for Foreign Trade Engages in Strategic Talks with Canada’s Minister of International Trade

Doha: HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed met with HE Minister of International Trade of Canada Maninder Sidhu and his delegation during his current visit to the country. The meeting focused on discussing bilateral cooperation and enhancing commerce and investment between Qatar and Canada, alongside several issues of joint interest.

According to Qatar News Agency, the two ministers chaired the Qatar-Canada Trade and Investment Roundtable, which included participation from government agencies and private sector representatives from both countries. In his address, HE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Affairs emphasized the strong and constructive relations between Qatar and Canada, highlighting the mutual trust and shared values that underpin their partnership. He noted the potential for cooperation in priority sectors and the expansion of partnership horizons to achieve mutual interests.

HE Dr. Al Sayed also underscored the importance of finalizing agreements on foreign investment promotion and protection, as well as economic, trade, and technical cooperation. He stressed the role these agreements play in strengthening economic ties and stimulating investments between Qatar and Canada. Furthermore, he highlighted the agreement to establish a joint committee for economic dialogue and a Qatari-Canadian Business Council, which would enhance communication between business communities and identify investment opportunities.

Qatar Chamber was also represented at the roundtable, with First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari and board member Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidli in attendance. Al Kuwari emphasized the multiple fields for cooperation and the importance of establishing a Qatar-Canada business council to further enhance business relations. Al Obaidli praised the strong Qatar-Canada relations and noted Qatari businessmen's interest in exploring Canadian investment opportunities and forming commercial alliances.
