Nairobi: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) actively participated in the seventh meeting of the Global Environment Outlook (GEO-7) held in Nairobi, Kenya. Representatives from various member states and international organizations focused on environmental and sustainable development issues were in attendance.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry was represented by a delegation comprising members from the Wildlife Development Department, the Green Development and Environmental Sustainability Department, and the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department. The assembly addressed pressing environmental challenges and explored ways to enhance international cooperation in combating climate change and protecting natural resources.
The primary objective of the meeting was to adopt the "Summary for Policymakers" of the GEO, a significant reference report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The report aims to bolster coordination among countries on priority environmental issues. The final report is set to be launched during the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in December 2025.
In the closing session, Abdullah Al Khulaifi, Assistant Director of the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department at MOECC, delivered a speech underscoring Qatar's support for proposals to enhance national implementation of multilateral environmental agreements. He emphasized the importance of intensifying international cooperation to combat the illicit transboundary movement of waste and prevent its illegal disposal, especially from developed to developing countries.
Throughout the meetings, the Ministry's delegation reiterated Qatar's firm commitment to international environmental agreements. They highlighted the nation's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable development and achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental protection, aligning with Qatar National Vision 2030.
