More Than One Million Displaced in Lebanon, UN Reports

Beirut: Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, reported that over one million individuals in Lebanon are currently displaced. Among them, 126,000 are residing in more than 600 collective shelters nationwide, while the majority remain outside official shelters.

According to Qatar News Agency, during a daily press briefing, Dujarric highlighted that since March 2, the United Nations has facilitated 110 humanitarian convoys and missions. Despite these efforts, the delivery of aid continues to encounter significant challenges due to insecurity, movement restrictions, unexploded ordnance, and damage to civilian infrastructure.

On peacekeeping efforts, Dujarric mentioned that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is actively monitoring military activities by Israeli forces in the area. These activities include heavy armored movements, engineering operations, and logistical undertakings.

Dujarric expressed concern over the impact on peacekeepers and United Nations sites due to the hostilities. Notably, structural damage was reported in three buildings within a UNIFIL site in El Biyada following exchanges of fire and Israeli military actions nearby.

Additionally, Dujarric voiced alarm over reports of civilian casualties, including children, from an Israeli strike in Beirut's southern suburbs on Wednesday evening. This marked the first attack on the Lebanese capital since the ceasefire was announced on April 17 and its subsequent extension.
