Paris: New European sanctions could be imposed in the coming days on Israeli settlers who committed acts of aggression against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Sunday. Barrot emphasized the possibility of European nations taking further action, expressing deep concern over the unlawful expansion of settlements in the West Bank and increasing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
According to Qatar News Agency, Barrot noted that such acts have not been observed for years, or even decades. He pointed out that the sanctions imposed in May 2026, which were the third set at the European level, were intended to urge the occupation government to take responsibility for these violent acts. Barrot also highlighted the E1 settlement plan, which the occupation government recently unveiled, to build thousands of residential units on 12 square kilometers in the West Bank. This plan, he argued, threatens the territorial contiguity necessary for any future Palestinian state.
Barrot further explained that the settlement plan poses a significant risk to the viability of a two-state solution. He pointed out that in May, the EU had already taken measures by freezing the assets of three individuals and four entities and banning their entry into the EU due to dangerous and systematic violations occurring in the West Bank.
