Doha: New Zealand’s Paul Coll and Egypt’s Hania El Hammamy were crowned champions of the QTerminals Qatar Classic 2025. Organized by the Qatar Squash Federation, the event wrapped up Saturday at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex in Doha.
According to Qatar News Agency, second-ranked in the world, Paul Coll triumphed over top-ranked Egyptian Mostafa Asal in the men’s final, with a score of 11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 11-5, in a gripping 68-minute match. This marks the second consecutive year that Asal has been defeated in the Qatar Classic final, having lost in 2024 to Peruvian Diego Elias.
Coll advanced to the final by defeating England’s George Bryan in straight games, 11-5, 11-3, 11-5, in the semifinals. Asal, on the other hand, secured his spot in the final with a decisive 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 victory over compatriot Fares Dessouki.
On the women’s side, El Hammamy, ranked second in the world, claimed the championship title by defeating compatriot and defending champion Nour El Sherbini, 11-6, 15-13,
11-8, in a 41-minute contest. This victory marks El Hammamy’s second Qatar Classic title, having also defeated El Sherbini in the 2023 final.
El Hammamy reached the final after a semifinal win against fellow Egyptian Amina Orfi, while El Sherbini advanced after overcoming Belgium’s sixth-ranked Tinne Gilis. The trophies were presented by HE President of the Qatar Tennis, Squash and Badminton Federation Nasser bin Ghanim Al Khelaifi, Secretary-General Tarek Zeinel, and Chairman of the Professional Squash Association Players’ Council Alex Gough.
Paul Coll expressed his immense gratification at winning the prestigious Super Platinum event title, emphasizing his dominance on the international squash stage. He praised the professional organization and atmosphere of the tournament in Qatar and highlighted the significance of his victory against the world No.1.
El Hammamy also expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the event and thanked the organizers for their efforts in staging one of the biggest champio
nships globally. She noted her familiarity with El Sherbini’s playing style, which helped her secure the victory.
