OIC Commends Saudi Arabia’s Initiative to Hold a Conference on the Situation in Yemen

Doha: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today commended Saudi Arabia's initiative to hold a comprehensive conference in Riyadh, in response to a request from the head of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al Alimi, and with the participation of various southern factions, with the aim of discussing just solutions to the southern issue.

According to Qatar News Agency, the OIC affirmed that sincere and inclusive dialogue remains the only way to achieve lasting peace and the desired stability in Yemen. OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha stressed that addressing national issues, foremost among them the southern issue, can only be achieved through dialogue, understanding, and consensus, taking into account its historical and social dimensions and sparing the country further fragmentation, suffering, and division.

He also affirmed that the unity, security, and stability of Yemen represent a fundamental pillar for the security and stability of the entire region, praising the Kingdom's leading role in supporting Yemeni legitimacy and sponsoring dialogue processes. He called on all parties to participate positively and constructively in a way that serves the higher interests of Yemen and the aspirations of its people, and promotes regional peace and stability.
