Oman Calls for Accountability Over Israeli Settlements in Palestine

Geneva:The Sultanate of Oman has highlighted the urgent need for accountability regarding the unlawful activities supporting Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory.

According to Qatar News Agency, Oman expressed these concerns during the general debate under Agenda Item 7 at the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council, which focused on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories. The session was held in Geneva, where Oman expressed regret over the ongoing humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, alongside the widespread devastation, displacement, and increasing humanitarian needs caused by the conflict.

Oman emphasized that these humanitarian issues necessitate an immediate and sustainable international response. The country also pointed out troubling developments such as settlement expansion, incursions, settler violence, land confiscation, and displacement in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

Additionally, Oman condemned the continued occupation of the Syrian Golan and the recent Israeli incursions and attacks in Syria. It stressed the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, adhering to international law, and upholding the United Nations Charter.

The Sultanate underscored the severity of the violations and challenges faced by the Palestinian people, urging for a robust international stance that moves beyond mere condemnation to action that ensures accountability. Oman also noted that achieving lasting peace is unattainable as long as impunity persists, emphasizing that international law must not be subject to selective application.
