PHCC Launches Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative in Qatar

Doha:The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has initiated its annual breast cancer awareness campaign, which emphasizes the critical role of early detection.

According to Qatar News Agency, the campaign is themed "Your strength begins with screening" and seeks to motivate women throughout Qatar to prioritize their health by undergoing screenings as a preventive measure against breast cancer.

The National Breast and Bowel Screening Program, known as 'Screen for Life,' is a key component of this initiative. It aligns with Qatar's National Cancer Program and the National Health Strategy 2011-2016, focusing on preventive, community-oriented healthcare. Annually, the program conducts a nationwide campaign to enhance awareness and highlight the importance of early detection through screening.

Throughout October, the campaign will utilize a mix of traditional and digital marketing strategies to broaden its reach and engage more participants. The central message of the campaign is that awareness, coupled with proactive screening, can save lives.

The breast screening program is available to all women in Qatar, both citizens and residents, aged between 45 and 69 years. It is specifically for those who have no symptoms of breast cancer and have not had a mammogram in the last three years. Women in this demographic are encouraged to undergo this vital preventive measure.

Dr. Shaikha Abu Shaikha, Director of Screening Programs at PHCC, emphasized the importance of screening by stating, "If you are between 45 and 69, have not had a mammogram in the last three years, and do not have symptoms, or even if you know someone who fits these criteria, we advise you to schedule a screening appointment." She further added that awareness is the initial step in combating breast cancer and that the campaign aims to empower women with knowledge, encouraging regular screenings to ensure peace of mind and improved health outcomes.
