Philippine President Declares State of Emergency in Response to Typhoon Kalmaegi

Doha: Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of emergency on Thursday following the widespread destruction caused by Typhoon Kalmaegi, and in preparation for another possible typhoon. Typhoon Kalmaegi left at least 241 dead and missing in the central provinces in the worst natural disaster to hit the country in 2025.

According to Qatar News Agency, the declaration of a state of emergency came during a meeting between the Philippine president and disaster management officials to assess the effects of the typhoon. Declaring a state of emergency will accelerate relief, rehabilitation, and recovery efforts in affected areas by allowing rapid access to emergency funds, imposing controls on the prices of basic commodities, and streamlining the procedures for deploying government aid.
