Tashkent: HE President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, and Presidents of the Arab Parliamentary Councils and Parliaments during the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-150), currently hosted in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Mirziyoyev expressed appreciation for the evolving ties between Qatar and Uzbekistan, highlighting a strong strategic partnership that reflects the dedication of both nations’ leaderships to deepen cooperation across various fields. He noted the exceptional parliamentary relationship between the Shura Council and the Uzbek Parliament.
The President hailed the visit of the Shura Council’s delegation to Tashkent as a constructive opportunity to share visions and enhance parliamentary cooperation for the mutual interests of the two friendly countries. He expressed confidence in the success of the event, anticipating positive outcomes that will contribute to strengthening sustainable development efforts and the principles of cooperation and understanding among the peoples.
HE Al Ghanim participated in the session of the IPU’s Assembly, which was inaugurated by HE the President of Uzbekistan. The Speaker of the Shura Council emphasized the crucial role of parliaments in promoting peace, development, and social justice, urging enhanced parliamentary cooperation to address global challenges such as poverty, climate change, and conflicts, and to empower women and youth.
He stressed the importance of consolidating the principle of peaceful resolution of conflicts, particularly in Ukraine and Palestine, and proposed the establishment of a global platform for young parliamentarians, aligning with the objectives of the IPU.
