Muscat: The State of Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman have signed an executive program for a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the realm of technical cooperation aimed at environmental protection and addressing climate change. This signing took place on the sidelines of Oman Climate Week, which operates under the theme "Life in a Sustainable World" and sees participation from over 60 countries.
According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar was represented by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, while the Sultanate of Oman was represented by HE Chairman of the Environment Authority Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al Amri. This program builds upon the MoU previously signed between the governments of the two nations.
The executive program is designed to foster bilateral cooperation in the areas of environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and biodiversity conservation. It outlines joint projects focusing on wildlife protection, endangered species management, vegetation rehabilitation, and the establishment of centers for breeding wild animals. Furthermore, it includes initiatives for the sustainable management of nature reserves, with efforts to exchange expertise on protecting sea turtles and tracking marine species such as whale sharks, whales, and dolphins through satellite technologies.
The program also addresses environmental pollution by developing coastal area management plans, improving water quality control, and safeguarding coral reefs. It aims to advance technologies for reducing carbon emissions, enhance environmental sustainability, and monitor the effects of climate change on ecosystems.
To achieve these objectives, the two countries have agreed to form joint working groups, organize training workshops, and facilitate exchanges between experts and specialists. These collaborative efforts are intended to support the shared goals of environmental protection and sustainability enhancement.
During Oman Climate Week, HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change participated in a high-level dialogue session. This session brought together decision-makers to discuss climate change challenges and explore sustainable solutions, aligning with both national and international efforts to tackle these critical issues.
