Doha: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has affirmed Qatar’s commitment to mediating peace efforts in the ongoing conflict involving Hamas and Israel.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Prime Minister emphasized Qatar’s unwavering dedication to facilitating negotiations and achieving a ceasefire, despite facing misinformation campaigns that aim to undermine its mediation role.
HE Sheikh Mohammed criticized the Israeli government’s response to Qatar’s efforts, which he claimed involved spreading misleading information to tarnish Qatar’s reputation. He reiterated Qatar’s identity as a peaceful nation, known for its tolerance and openness, and rejected accusations of promoting hate speech or anti-Semitism. The Prime Minister highlighted Qatar’s transparent diplomatic relations and its resistance to political bullying.
Discussions between HE Sheikh Mohammed and HE the Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also covered the Iranian nuclear negotiations, praising Oman’s mediation efforts. The talks underscored the strong strategic partnership between Qatar and Turkiye, which contributes to regional stability and development. HE Fidan emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and defense, for regional security.
The Palestinian issue, particularly the Gaza conflict, was a focal point of the discussions. HE Fidan noted Turkiye’s priority in restoring the ceasefire and ensuring humanitarian aid flows, while advocating for prisoner exchanges between Palestinians and Israelis. He praised Qatar’s significant role, along with efforts by Egypt and other regional entities, in seeking a resolution.
Regarding Syria, both nations stressed the need for regional cooperation to achieve stability. HE Fidan called for lifting sanctions on Syria to aid reconstruction and reiterated Turkiye’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity. The ongoing coordination between Qatar and Turkiye aims to secure a stable future for the Syrian people.
