Qatar Appeals to UN Over Iranian Drone and Missile Attacks on Its Territory

New york: The State of Qatar has dispatched a fourth identical letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, and the Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN and President of the Security Council for the month, Michael Waltz. The letter addresses recent Iranian attacks on Qatari territories, which Qatar claims violate its sovereignty, threaten its security, and destabilize the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the letter from Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, highlights ongoing attacks targeting Qatari territories. It details an incident on March 4, 2026, when Qatar was attacked by 10 drones and two cruise missiles from Iran. The Qatari defense forces successfully intercepted most of these threats, with the air defense systems and naval forces thwarting the rest. Additionally, two ballistic missiles were launched at Qatar, with one striking near the Al Udeid Air Base, although no casualties were reported.

The letter notes significant impacts on Qatar's industrial output, as QatarEnergy declared force majeure, ceasing production of liquefied natural gas and other related products due to the military attacks on its facilities. This disruption affects operations in Ras Laffan and Mesaieed Industrial Cities and extends to various chemical and petrochemical products.

Further, the letter describes the arrest of two cells linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps within Qatar. Ten suspects were detained, with charges ranging from espionage on vital military facilities to planning sabotage missions. They reportedly had technical tools and coordinates of sensitive sites, with some receiving drone operation training. Confessions from the suspects confirmed their ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The letter concludes with Qatar's assessment of damages and losses from the attacks and a commitment to update relevant authorities on developments. Qatar condemns the aggression, reasserting its right to respond under Article 51 of the UN Charter to defend its sovereignty and national interests. The letter also requests the circulation of this communication as an official Security Council document.
