Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at the Amiri Diwan, where significant regional security concerns and legislative developments were discussed.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet strongly condemned recent attacks by the Houthi group involving ballistic missiles and drones on civilian targets in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in civilian injuries and damage to residential properties and vehicles. The Cabinet labeled these actions as aggressive and in violation of international law, emphasizing Qatar's solidarity with Saudi Arabia in maintaining its sovereignty and security.
In addition, the Cabinet criticized the drone attacks targeting the East-West oil pipeline in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh and Medina regions, launched from Iraq, which caused casualties and material damage. The Cabinet reiterated Qatar's support for Saudi Arabia against such threats, highlighting the interconnected security interests of Gulf Cooperation Council states.
The Cabinet also denounced Iran's renewed attacks on Jordan, citing violations of sovereignty and international law principles. On the legislative front, the Cabinet approved a draft law on precious metals and gemstones, aimed at updating standards and regulations to align with international norms and market needs. This draft law seeks to enhance the supervisory functions of the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology to ensure product quality and consumer protection.
Further, the Cabinet endorsed a draft decision to reorganize the Permanent Committee for the Registration of Pharmaceutical Companies and Their Products, which will replace the existing framework with updated competencies to address modern challenges in pharmaceutical registration.
Additionally, the Cabinet reviewed a report from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on the National Framework for Promoting Values and Morals, underscoring ongoing efforts to instill national identity and social cohesion in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Concluding the session, the Cabinet evaluated reports on Qatar Tourism's 2025 activities, the International Labour Conference, and the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, making necessary decisions based on these assessments.
