Qatar Condemns Drone Attack Amid Heightened Regional Tensions


Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has been actively engaging in diplomatic communications following a drone attack targeting the State of Qatar. The attack, which involved drones launched from Iran, has raised significant security concerns within the region. In light of these events, the Prime Minister discussed the military escalation’s developments with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Tom Berendsen, and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Panama, Javier Martinez-Acha. Both discussions emphasized the critical need for peaceful dispute resolution to ensure regional and global stability and security.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Defense announced the drone attack on Sunday, signaling a serious breach of Qatari airspace and sovereignty. In response, HE Speaker of the Shura Council Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim reiterated Qatar’s firm stance against Iranian aggression, condemning any actions that threaten the security and sovereignty of Qatar and its neighboring countries.



Further highlighting Qatar’s active diplomatic engagements, HE Minister of State for International Cooperation Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad met with HE Ambassador of the Republic of India to Qatar, Vipul. Additionally, HE Speaker of the Shura Council met with HE Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Qatar, Paolo Toschi, as part of Qatar’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international relations amid regional tensions.



The State of Qatar also participated in the 165th session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, focusing on regional security issues in light of the recent escalation. Additionally, Qatar’s involvement in the 165th ordinary session of the Council of the Arab League at the level of permanent delegates in Cairo underscores its commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing regional challenges.



In other developments, the Ministry of Transport announced the gradual resumption of maritime navigation exclusively for vessels licensed for marine fishing activities, set to begin on Monday. This decision indicates a cautious approach to returning normalcy to the region’s maritime activities following the recent security concerns.
