Doha: The State of Qatar has condemned the Houthi attacks on civilian and economic sites in Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These attacks resulted in injuries to several civilians, including women and children. The Houthis have also continued their targeting of commercial ships in the Red Sea, posing threats to the security, safety, and freedom of international maritime navigation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday, emphasizing that these attacks are acts of aggression that disregard civilian lives and regional security. The ministry labeled the attacks as blatant violations of Saudi sovereignty and breaches of international law. It highlighted the dangerous escalation these actions represent for regional stability.
The ministry urged the international community to take responsibility and adopt a firm stance against these violations. It called for the enforcement of relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2216 concerning Yemen and Resolution 2722 regarding security and navigation freedom in the Red Sea.
The statement reaffirmed that freedom of navigation through international waterways is a right protected by international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Qatar expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, supporting all legitimate measures to uphold its sovereignty, security, territorial integrity, and interests. It stressed that Saudi security is intertwined with Qatar's security and the collective security of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.
Qatar also conveyed its wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the attacks, praying for the continued safety and well-being of Saudi Arabia and its people.
