Qatar Condemns Israeli Blockade on Gaza Amidst Global Humanitarian Concerns

Doha: English-language newspaper The Peninsula reported that after weeks of a ceasefire agreement, which had facilitated the release of hundreds of prisoners and hostages and allowed the delivery of essential humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, Israeli authorities have now halted all aid to the region and cut the electricity supply to the beleaguered Palestinian territory.

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar, along with several other Arab nations such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, and Egypt, has strongly criticized these recent actions by Israel. Qatar contends that the Israeli measures aimed at besieging the Palestinian population in Gaza and impeding the flow of humanitarian assistance are tactics intended to induce starvation and heighten tensions within the Strip. The newspaper emphasized the urgent need for the global community to take decisive action and pressure Israel to permit unrestricted humanitarian aid access to Gaza and to promptly reinstate the electricity supply.

On the domestic front, Al-Raya newspaper highlighted Qatar’s strategic initiatives to maintain its leadership in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) market. As part of this effort, Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat) has commenced the construction of eight new LNG carriers at Hanwha Ocean Shipyard in Korea. This initiative is a component of Qatar’s significant LNG fleet expansion project, aimed at addressing the increasing demands of the global LNG maritime transport sector. Each of these vessels boasts a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters, aligning with Qatar’s strategic gas industry expansion objectives.

The newspaper noted that these new vessels are equipped with cutting-edge technologies, ensuring improved operational efficiency and reliability while meeting global environmental standards. This will lead to optimal fuel efficiency and a considerable reduction in carbon emissions, underscoring Nakilat’s dedication to sustainable and eco-friendly shipping solutions. Al-Raya concluded by affirming Qatar’s unwavering commitment to the stability of the global energy market as a dependable supplier that has consistently met its gas delivery obligations worldwide. This is coupled with QatarEnergy’s long-term fleet modernization efforts, solidifying its status as a predominant force in the global clean energy market, backed by extensive capabilities to develop its natural gas resources and boost LNG exports.
