Qatar Engages in Arab Economic and Social Council Meetings in Cairo


Cairo: The State of Qatar actively participated in the extraordinary session of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, which took place at the Arab League’s headquarters in Cairo. This session saw the involvement of heads and members of various Arab delegations.



According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Dr. Saud bin Abdullah Al Attiyah, Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance. The council’s agenda focused on several critical economic and social topics. Key discussions included the progress made towards the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), updates on the Arab Customs Union, and the Arab Food Security Strategy for 2025-2030.



These meetings were conducted in preparation for the upcoming 34th session and the 5th development summit, scheduled to take place in Iraq in May 2025.
