Qatar Engages in Global Dialogue on Food Security at Berlin Forum

Berlin: The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality, participated in the 17th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in Berlin, an event organized by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture from January 15 to 18. The Qatari delegation was led by Assistant Undersecretary for Agriculture and Food Security Affairs Eng. Fahad Mohammed Al Qahtani, with HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Germany Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Hamar also in attendance.

According to Qatar News Agency, the forum convened agriculture ministers and delegation heads from 70 countries, alongside representatives from international organizations. Discussions centered on the role of trade in ensuring global food security, transparency in food supply chains, and the effects of free trade on agriculture and rural development.

A significant aspect of the forum was the theme “Shaping a Sustainable Bioeconomy,” which emphasized agricultural and forestry production as key elements for transitioning to a global bioeconomy. These discussions were in line with global efforts to secure food, uphold human rights, respect environmental limits, and advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
