Qatar: Qatar will host India on Friday at Lusail Hall in their opener of the second window of Group D in the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar. The Qataris have accumulated three points from their opening two matches, having secured a victory against Lebanon with a score of 86-83 away, before narrowly losing 75-74 in a home game against the same opponents. Currently, they occupy the second position in Group D, trailing behind Saudi Arabia, who are in the lead with four points.
According to Qatar News Agency, Lebanon sits in third place with three points, while India finds itself at the bottom of the group with two points. The upcoming match is crucial for both teams as Qatar aims to capitalize on their prior triumph over Lebanon, and India seeks to keep their qualification aspirations intact.
The qualifiers feature sixteen teams from Asia and Oceania, divided into four groups. The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, where they will be reorganized into two new groups. From these, three teams from each group will earn a direct spot in the 2027 World Cup, in addition to the best fourth-placed team.
The qualification matches are spread across six windows, extending from November 2025 to March 2027.
