Qatar Facilitates Landmark Peace Agreement Between DRC and March 23 Movement

Doha: The State of Qatar hosted a pivotal signing ceremony in Doha, marking the Declaration of Principles between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congo River Alliance/March 23 Movement. This event is seen as a crucial step towards achieving peace and stability in the conflict-ridden eastern region of the DRC.

According to Qatar News Agency, this declaration is the culmination of Qatar's diplomatic efforts over recent months. Qatar has played a significant role in fostering a conducive environment for dialogue between the two sides, aiming for a peaceful resolution to the prolonged conflict in the region.

The ceremony was attended by official representatives from both parties, as well as a high-level delegation from Qatar. The Declaration of Principles outlines mutual commitments and sets a general framework for ongoing negotiations towards a comprehensive peace agreement.

During the event, HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi emphasized Qatar's belief in dialogue as a tool for resolving conflicts. He reiterated Qatar's commitment to supporting peaceful efforts to end the conflict in eastern Congo.

Dr. Al Khulaifi also highlighted Qatar's dedication to supporting political solutions in coordination with the African Union, complementing the peace agreement signed between the DRC and Rwanda in Washington on June 27.

Negotiations will continue with the participation of regional and international parties to reach a final agreement that strengthens security and stability in the region.
