Qatar Highlights Importance of Technical Cooperation in Human Rights

Geneva:The State of Qatar has emphasized the significant priority it places on technical cooperation and capacity-building in collaboration with the United Nations and its human rights mechanisms, particularly the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

According to Qatar News Agency, this was articulated in a statement delivered by Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansouri, Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva. He participated in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity-building under agenda item 10 during the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al Mansouri noted that Qatar has pursued a strategic partnership with the United Nations and its various bodies by providing multiple forms of support that have improved the human rights situation in several critical fields. This partnership continues through the work of the Doha-based United Nations Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre.

He highlighted that with challenges facing many countries exceeding their individual capabilities, it is crucial to provide technical assistance and help nations strengthen their capacities in human rights, based on their willingness and priorities. This approach is tailored to national specificities and key needs, enabling nations to meet their human rights obligations, following consultation with them.

Furthermore, Al Mansouri stressed the importance Qatar places on giving equal priority to all human rights, including political, civil, socioeconomic, and cultural rights, as well as the right to development. He also reemphasized the importance of international cooperation through the exchange of good practices, knowledge transfer, and leveraging scientific and technological advancements, in addition to supporting nations in closing the digital gap to enhance the universality of human rights.
