Qatar Hosts Series of High-Profile Events and Strategic Initiatives


Doha: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA), launched the second edition of the e-government workshop for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region in Qatar. This event aims to enhance regional cooperation and development in e-government initiatives.



According to Qatar News Agency, another significant event, the third International Conference on Energy and Indoor Environment for Hot Climates, also commenced in Doha. This conference focuses on addressing energy and environmental challenges specific to hot climate regions.



In diplomatic efforts, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan expressed its continued support for Qatar, Egypt, and the United States in their initiatives to secure an immediate ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.



The Earthna Summit 2025 concluded its two-day event, organized by the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, a member of Qatar Foundation. The summit fostered discussions on sustainability, innovation, and traditional knowledge under the theme “Building Our Legacy.”



Additionally, the Economic Development Qatar 2025 conference began in Doha, highlighting education’s critical role in economic growth, women’s empowerment, and community service. The conference also emphasized the importance of including persons with disabilities in development efforts.



In a move to enhance professional skills, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Qualifying and Skills Development teamed up with the Qatar Association of Certified Public Accountants (QCPA) to offer specialized training in financial auditing.



Qatar is also participating in the 27th meeting of Officials of the Penal and Correctional Institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh.



The Ministry of Education and Higher Education reaffirmed its support for the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) by incorporating the UDST Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in Teaching STEM and TVET into the “Tomouh” in-country scholarship track.



Furthering cultural and academic ties, Qatar National Library signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bibliotheque nationale de France to collaborate on digitization, preservation, and research focused on Islamic heritage and Gulf region history.



In sports, Al Wakrah advanced to the final of HH the Amir’s Volleyball Cup after defeating Al Shorta in the semi-final round. In basketball, Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah secured victories in their respective matches in the opening round of HH the Amir’s Basketball Cup.



On the economic front, Mekdam Holding, Ezdan Holding Group, and Meeza QSTP reported increased net profits for the first quarter of 2025, indicating a positive trend in Qatar’s business sector. The Qatar Stock Exchange also saw a rise, closing up by 97.82 points.



In equestrian sports, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club hosted the first part of the End of Season Cup horse race, featuring competitive rounds on Al Uqda’s grass track. Meanwhile, the draw for the first Asian U-17 Handball Championship placed Qatar in Group B with Saudi Arabia and China.
