Hanoi:The State of Qatar took part in a significant meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Social Development, held in Bahrain. The gathering focused on enhancing cooperation and coordination on social development issues across the Gulf region.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar was represented by Her Excellency Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi. The participation highlighted Qatar's commitment to fostering joint Gulf social action, promoting the exchange of expertise and experiences among GCC countries, and supporting initiatives addressing social priorities and challenges in the region.
The meeting covered several key topics in the field of social development, such as monitoring the implementation of joint Gulf decisions and plans, and developing a work plan for the Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Social Development for 2026-2030. It also aimed to enhance the effectiveness of joint social initiatives and programs in response to current priorities and emerging developments.
Discussions included important issues related to persons with disabilities, such as following up on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and a proposal to organize a regular Gulf forum addressing disability-related issues.
In terms of childhood, the meeting explored the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, its impact on children's rights, and the preparation of a regional report on children's rights and future in GCC countries. Further coordination on children's issues and rights was also a focus.
The meeting addressed matters concerning Gulf women and aimed to enhance coordination among GCC countries in related areas. Additionally, new proposals and initiatives were introduced to develop joint Gulf social action and strengthen cooperation among the GCC nations.
On the sidelines, Her Excellency Al Nuaimi attended a ceremony honoring leading figures and projects in civil social work for 2026, where several distinguished Qatari figures and projects received recognition.
