Doha: The Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has unveiled its detailed sports calendar for 2026, featuring an array of events and competitions throughout the year. The calendar includes a total of 83 championships, comprising 39 international events, 16 world championships, 10 Asian tournaments, three GCC competitions, one Arab championship, and 14 domestic events.
According to Qatar News Agency, the sporting season is set to commence in January 2026 with a series of high-profile events. Notable among these are the First Tour of HH the Father Amir Equestrian Prix and the WTT Contender. The month will also host the Asian Shotgun Cup 2026, the International Series Qatar Golf Championship, Doha FIP Promises Padel Tournament, and the Qatar Fencing Grand Prix (Epee), among others, marking a dynamic start to the year.
February will maintain the sporting momentum with events like the Qatar Masters Golf Championship, Qatar TotalEnergies Open, and the QOC Half Marathon coinciding with National Sport Day celebrations. Other significant events include the HH the Amir's Sword International Equestrian Festival and the 2026 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, highlighting Qatar's broad spectrum of sporting activities.
March promises to be one of the most competitive months, with Doha hosting elite international events such as the Second Window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Qualifiers and the Longines Global Champions Tour. The month will also see the highly anticipated Finalissima match between Argentina and Spain.
April's schedule features a mix of local and international championships, including the Qatar Basketball Cup Final and the 40th Amateur Qatar Open Golf Championship. The month will be busy with events like the GCC Tennis Championships and the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup, showcasing Qatar's active sports scene.
Football takes center stage in May with the HH the Amir Football Cup Final and the Qatar Football Cup Final. The month will also feature the 4th GCC Games, welcoming athletes from the Gulf region to compete across 18 sporting events in nine premier venues.
June and July will see the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship and the third Window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Qualifiers, reinforcing Qatar's role in hosting major international competitions.
In August, the 2026 FIVB U17 World Volleyball Championship and the fourth Window of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers will be held in Doha, continuing Qatar's tradition of hosting global sporting events.
September's highlights include the 2026 FIBA Asia U18 Cup and the QTerminals Qatar Classic 2026, reflecting Qatar's commitment to youth development and sporting excellence.
Sporting action in October will feature the PSA 4 Challenger Senior Tournament and the sixth Qatar Open Taekwondo Championship, emphasizing Qatar's growing influence in global sports.
November's schedule is packed with events such as the World Padel Championship and the 2026 T100 Triathlon World Championship Final Qatar, making it one of the most eventful months.
The year concludes in December with the ITF Qatar Men's Tennis Championships and the 3x3 Basketball World Tour, wrapping up the 2025-2026 season.
Director of the Sports Sector at the QOC, Sheikh Khalifa bin Khalid Al-Thani, emphasized that the 2026 sports events calendar reflects comprehensive institutional planning. The calendar serves as a key reference for the sector, supporting the readiness of national federations and ensuring the sustainable hosting of events in line with organizational and technical standards.
