Geneva: The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its full support for the Libyan political process, relevant Security Council resolutions, and all peaceful solutions that aim to preserve Libya’s unity, stability, and sovereignty while aligning with the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, peace, development, and prosperity.
According to Qatar News Agency, this commitment was articulated in a statement by Ahmed Salman Al Hammadi, a third political researcher at the International Organizations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Al Hammadi delivered the statement during an interactive dialogue on the report of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) concerning technical assistance and capacity-building to enhance human rights in Libya. This dialogue was part of Item 10 within the framework of the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al Hammadi expressed appreciation for the efforts and activities undertaken by the OHCHR, in collaboration with Libyan authorities, to provide support, technical assistance, and capacity-building aimed at improving the protection of human rights during Libya’s transitional period.
After reviewing the report, Qatar condemned all violations committed against the Libyan people and called upon all Libyan parties to respect their obligations under international laws and agreements. It emphasized the importance of promoting national reconciliation and transitional justice while ensuring accountability for all violations against Libyans.
Al Hammadi urged the international community and the Office of the High Commissioner to maintain their support through technical assistance and coordination with Libyan authorities and institutions, identifying needs and priorities to achieve positive outcomes and help Libya implement its international human rights obligations.
