Qatar Reaffirms Support for OPCW and Calls for Peaceful Resolutions

The hague: The State of Qatar has reiterated its dedication to supporting the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in its mission to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), thereby enhancing global peace and security. This commitment was conveyed by HE Ambassador Dr. Mutlaq bin Majid Al Qahtani, Qatar's Permanent Representative to the OPCW, during the 112th session of the OPCW Executive Council in The Hague.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Qahtani expressed Qatar's concerns about the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Israeli attacks on Lebanon, emphasizing the threats these situations pose to civilians and regional stability. He called for serious attention to any allegations regarding the use or threat of chemical weapons and stressed the need for perpetrators to be held accountable under international law.

Dr. Al Qahtani also praised the ongoing cooperation between the Syrian Arab Republic and the OPCW Technical Secretariat, suggesting that such progress warrants the reinstatement of Syria's rights and privileges within the OPCW. This action, he argued, would contribute positively to regional security and enhance the organization's credibility.

Highlighting Qatar's stance, Dr. Al Qahtani emphasized that dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution are crucial for maintaining international peace and security. He also voiced Qatar's concerns about the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, pointing out the humanitarian and security risks involved. He urged for intensified international efforts to foster dialogue among the parties involved, all the while adhering to international law to prevent the use or threat of chemical weapons.
