Doha: Qatar's U-19 handball team emerged victorious at the Asian Championship in Jordan, defeating Bahrain 28-24 in the final held on Monday.
According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar showcased a dominant performance throughout the tournament, culminating in their win against Bahrain. The team led 16-10 at halftime and maintained their advantage to clinch the title. This victory not only crowns them as champions but also secures their place at the 2027 IHF Men's Youth World Championship for the seventh time in their history.
Qatar's journey to the final was marked by a series of impressive victories. They defeated South Korea 32-28 in the semifinals, while Bahrain overcame Iran 26-23. Qatar remained unbeaten, earning a perfect eight points in Group B with wins over Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, and Syria. In the knockout stages, they defeated hosts Jordan 33-13 in the quarterfinals before their semifinal triumph over South Korea.
Ahmed Al Shaabi, President of the Qatar Handball Association, expressed his delight at the U-19 team's success, emphasizing that this achievement reflects the ongoing development of Qatari handball. He praised the players' outstanding performances and the efforts of the technical and administrative staff, noting that this victory will boost the team's morale as they prepare for the World Championship in North Macedonia in 2027.
Mohammed Jaber, Secretary-General of the Association, highlighted that winning the Asian title with an unbeaten record adds to Qatar handball's legacy of continental and international achievements. He applauded the team's exceptional technical and physical prowess throughout the competition and wished them success in representing Qatar at the upcoming global event.
