Doha: Qatari newspapers in their Sunday editorials focused on Qatar’s welcome of Hamas’s announcement approving the proposal of US President Donald Trump aimed at halting the fighting and reaching a settlement that includes the release of all hostages under a defined exchange framework contained in the initiative.
According to Qatar News Agency, the papers also cited the appreciation expressed by HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres to the State of Qatar for its valuable joint mediation efforts to end the tragic war in the Gaza Strip. His remarks came in response to Hamas’s acceptance of the US President’s proposal.
The newspapers agreed that Hamas’s positive response reflects the commitment of the movement and other Palestinian factions to protecting civilians and ending the war as a step toward achieving the Palestinian people’s aspirations for statehood.
Under the title “Qatar’s Welcome for a First Step Toward Peace,” Al-Sharq said that, in a move reflecting its continued support for efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip, Qatar welcomed Hamas’s approval of President Trump’s proposal to halt the fighting and reach a settlement providing for the release of all hostages under the exchange formula outlined in the plan.
The paper added that Doha expressed its support for the US President’s statements, particularly his call for an immediate ceasefire as a crucial step to ensure the rapid and safe release of hostages and to stop the bloodshed of the Palestinian people. It noted that Qatar, in coordination with Egypt and the United States, has begun discussions to implement the plan’s provisions, emphasizing the need for urgent action to reach an agreement that would end the war and pave the way for greater stability.
Al-Sharq concluded that Qatar has repeatedly affirmed that no lasting solution to the Middle East conflict can be achieved without a sincere international political will committed to the principles of international law. It stressed that just and sustainable peace in the region cannot be attained through temporary or security arrangements alone, but through addressing the root causes of the conflict, ending recurring wars, and adopting a comprehensive vision that meets the peoples’ aspirations for security, justice, dignity, and development as the true guarantee of long-term stability.
For its part, under the title “Ending the Bloodshed,” Al-Watan highlighted Qatar’s welcome of Hamas’s announcement approving President Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza and its readiness to release all hostages under the exchange formula outlined in the plan.
The paper added that Qatar supports the US President’s call for an immediate ceasefire to facilitate the safe and swift release of hostages and to achieve rapid results that would end the bloodshed of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Al-Watan also noted the appreciation expressed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for Qatar’s valuable joint mediation efforts to end the tragic war in Gaza following Hamas’s acceptance of the proposal, affirming Qatar’s belief in its pivotal role in mediation and conflict resolution to promote peace.
The paper observed that Hamas’s positive response reflects the commitment of the movement and other Palestinian factions to protecting civilians and ending the war as a step toward achieving the Palestinian people’s aspirations for statehood.
Al-Watan concluded by expressing hope that this positive development would prompt all parties to act responsibly and commit to implementing President Trump’s plan on the ground, ending the war, ensuring the unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid through UN mechanisms, and releasing hostages and detainees, thereby laying the groundwork for a new phase of peace.
