Qatari Newspapers Condemn Israeli Blockade and Laud Qatar’s Role in Global Peace Efforts

Doha: Al-Raya newspaper has condemned the ongoing actions of the Israeli occupation, accusing it of waging a war of starvation and thirst against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza. The blockade on the Strip has been tightened, preventing the entry of humanitarian aid and systematically targeting food distribution centers. This has resulted in a perilous search for food, leading to the deaths of over 200 starving Palestinians who were directly targeted at aid distribution centers.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya emphasized that the State of Qatar has consistently warned about the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and has urged for effective international intervention to cease these actions and allow Palestinians to live with dignity. The newspaper highlighted remarks by HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, during the Oslo Forum for Peace. He condemned the deliberate targeting of infrastructure and the suffering of civilians, calling for international action that extends beyond mere statements to tangible steps.

Dr. Al Khulaifi also pointed out the necessity of transitioning from crisis management to solution-building, which requires a shift towards joint regional action and the development of new mechanisms that reflect the realities of the region. Al-Raya concluded by urging the international community to compel the occupation to halt its actions and the genocide against Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip, which has endured severe ethnic cleansing since October 2023.

Meanwhile, the Peninsula newspaper highlighted Qatar's unwavering support for multilateralism and the United Nations agenda to promote peace and sustainable development worldwide. Since joining the UN in 1971, Qatar has emerged as a strategic partner in advancing the mission of peace, development, and humanitarian relief. The newspaper noted that Qatar's contributions to UN agencies reflect its commitment to international cooperation and multilateralism, with initiatives spanning humanitarian support, peacebuilding, education in conflict zones, and counter-terrorism.

The Peninsula further noted that Qatar hosts the unique UN House in Doha, which coordinates regional functions of several UN agencies, including ILO, UNESCO, OHCHR, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNOTC, UNDP, and WHO. The editorial concluded by mentioning that HE Annalena Baerbock, President-elect of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly and former German foreign minister, praised Qatar's significant role in supporting UN efforts, particularly in promoting international peace and security and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
