Qatari Newspapers Emphasize Diplomatic Solutions Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Doha: Editorials of Qatari newspapers on Sunday highlighted the recent phone calls made and received by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, emphasizing Qatar's consistent and principled stance amid escalating tensions in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers focused on a phone call HH the Amir made to HE President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, where His Highness reaffirmed Qatar's strong condemnation of the Israeli attack on Iranian territory. HH the Amir described the strike as a violation of Iran's sovereignty and a breach of international law.

The editorials also noted a phone call HH the Amir received from HE President of the United States, Donald Trump, highlighting the urgent need to de-escalate tensions and prioritize diplomatic solutions for a comprehensive and lasting peace in the region. The Qatari dailies warned that continued escalation poses a threat to regional and international security and stressed the importance of adhering to international law to prevent further deterioration.

Al-Watan highlighted that the call between HH the Amir and the Iranian President reaffirmed Qatar's rejection of aggression and commitment to peaceful conflict resolution. The newspaper emphasized that the Israeli strike was a dangerous escalation and a violation of international norms, especially amidst diplomatic efforts. It further noted that Qatar's foreign policy promotes international cooperation and dialogue to prevent conflict escalation.

Al-Watan concluded by warning that such aggression risks increasing regional violence, particularly given the ongoing Israeli actions in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories. Meanwhile, Al-Arab emphasized Qatar's clear position from the outset of the Israeli assault on Iran and referenced HH the Amir's call with US President Trump, where His Highness reiterated the importance of de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. The paper noted President Trump's expression of Washington's willingness to support crisis resolution efforts.

Additionally, Al-Arab mentioned a call between HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, as well as a meeting with HE German Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann Wadephul. The editorial noted that HE the Prime Minister emphasized the need for regional and international efforts to resolve disputes through diplomacy, aiming for lasting peace in the Middle East.
