Qatari Newspapers Highlight Global Commitment to Social Development at Doha Summit

Doha: In a series of editorials, Qatari newspapers have addressed significant developments stemming from the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Doha.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Arab newspaper focused on the adoption of the Doha Political Declaration, which signifies a global commitment to constructing more just and inclusive societies. This declaration links social justice to peace, security, and human rights, emphasizing the importance of social development as a foundation for peace, stability, and sustainable growth.

Al-Arab highlighted the reaffirmation by world leaders of the principles outlined in the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The editorial pointed out the three mutually reinforcing pillars of the Declaration: eradicating poverty, achieving full and productive employment and decent work for all, and promoting social inclusion. The newspaper noted the acknowledgment of existing gaps in achieving justice and significant inequalities, viewing this as a starting point for implementing action plans aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The editorial concluded by noting the substantial progress made globally in reducing poverty, although recent years have seen a slowdown. Al-Arab emphasized that more than a billion people still suffer from various forms of poverty, with vulnerable groups such as children, women, and people with disabilities experiencing higher rates of poverty. The newspaper expressed hope that the ambitious plans announced during the summit would positively impact the well-being of current and future generations.

Al-Raya newspaper also reflected on the Doha Political Declaration, noting its significance as a turning point in international efforts toward social justice and comprehensive development. The editorial highlighted the shared commitment by governments to address pressing issues such as poverty, decent work opportunities, discrimination, and human rights protection. The newspaper emphasized that social development is not only a moral imperative but also essential for peace, stability, and growth.

Al-Raya commended Doha’s role in hosting the global event, continuing Qatar’s commitment to justice, development, and empowering individuals with advancement opportunities. The editorial noted that Doha has evolved from a platform for dialogue to an active partner in shaping global social development. Through concrete initiatives, Doha promotes decent work and social dialogue, striving for a balance between economic growth and human well-being.

The editorial concluded by asserting that Doha marks the beginning of a new chapter in the global pursuit of a more equitable world, where development is measured by human dignity rather than GDP figures.
