Doha: Qatari newspapers on Friday devoted their editorials to a spectrum of local, regional, and international developments, foremost among them the resounding success of the Second World Summit for Social Development, which concluded in Doha on Thursday. They also underscored the growing momentum of Qatari-Egyptian relations across economic and investment fields, alongside continued alarm over the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Sharq stressed that the Summit drew unprecedented global acclaim for its outcomes and forward-looking recommendations, noting that it has reshaped the global agenda for social development three decades after the first summit in Copenhagen. The paper emphasized that Doha marked a decisive turning point-transitioning from diagnosis and rhetoric to concrete action and implementation through broad multilateral engagement spanning governments, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector.
Al-Sharq underlined that the Doha Political Declaration constitutes a new global starting point for advancing social justice, improving education, healthcare, and social protection systems, and mobilizing tangible financial commitments to accelerate the Sustainable Development Goals. The editorial highlighted the praise offered by world leaders for Qatar’s exceptional organization-hosting nearly 8,000 participants while simultaneously staging the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2025-reinforcing Doha’s stature as a global hub for diplomacy, development, and major international events.
For its part, Al-Watan focused on the Summit’s pragmatic and results-driven approach, affirming it will catalyze a shift from promises to measurable actions across employment, education, healthcare, and social equity, thereby strengthening progress toward the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The paper noted that the Doha Political Declaration reaffirmed global commitment to social justice and enhanced international and regional cooperation, adding that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for periodic progress reporting to the UN General Assembly.
Al-Watan further emphasized that the declaration identified 15 priority pillars to create inclusive social environments and eradicate poverty in all its forms, foremost among the greatest challenges to global sustainable development. The editorial concluded that the Summit’s outcomes represent a defining inflection point for global social justice and reaffirm Qatar’s enduring leadership and mediating role in international development.
