Doha: Over the past decades, the State of Qatar has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting Arab cooperation and strengthening ties between Arab countries. Its unwavering efforts in advocating for just causes and providing necessary assistance have earned it a notable position on both regional and international fronts, making it a model for advocating for the issues of the Arab world.
According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar’s firm positions on Arab cooperation and solidarity are rooted in principles drawn from its national constitution. Article 7 of the Constitution emphasizes strengthening international peace and security, encouraging peaceful resolution of disputes, supporting the right to self-determination, non-interference in domestic affairs, and cooperation with peace-loving nations. These principles guide Qatar’s foreign policy towards enhancing unity and integration within regional and international forums.
Qatar’s strength is drawn from its rich cultural and civilizationa
l heritage, which forms a fundamental part of its identity. It adopts a moderate and culturally tolerant approach in its dealings, enhancing communication and cooperation. As an active member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Qatar also participates in many regional and international organizations.
Since gaining independence in 1971, Qatar has worked to promote international cooperation, establishing its presence in the United Nations, the Arab League, the GCC, and the OIC. These efforts aim to enhance its regional role in economic, political, and cultural fields, supporting inter-civilizational dialogue and contributing to global peace and security.
In his first speech in June 2013, HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized Qatar’s commitment to supporting Arab and Islamic world issues, particularly the Palestinian cause. This commitment aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which seeks to strengthen its role as an acti
ve and responsible international community member through political, economic, and developmental initiatives, including humanitarian aid.
Qatar’s independent and flexible foreign policy, based on dialogue, preventive diplomacy, mediation, and peaceful dispute resolution, is a tool for preventing conflicts and maintaining international peace and security. It adheres to the Charter of the United Nations and international law rules, playing a mediating role in many conflicts over the past two decades.
The State of Qatar has focused on its Arab surroundings to promote understanding and reconciliation, laying foundations for peaceful and sustainable political solutions. It has consistently supported the Palestinian people, providing material and moral support for their cause in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Qatar’s efforts to heal the rift between Palestinian factions have led to successes in narrowing differences between them.
A historic step was HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani’s visit to
the Gaza Strip in 2012, where he announced aid and development projects to support Gaza’s residents. Since the start of Israel’s aggression against Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023, Qatar has intensified its diplomatic efforts for a permanent ceasefire. Despite challenges, Qatar remains committed to alleviating the suffering of Gaza’s residents.
