Dublin: Qatari newspapers have highlighted the awarding of the Tipperary International Peace Award to HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani. The award, recognized as one of the most prestigious global honors in the field of peace, was presented during a ceremony held in the Republic of Ireland.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorials emphasized that the award is a tribute to the State of Qatar's significant global efforts in promoting peace, security, and stability worldwide, under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Al-Arab newspaper noted that the award reflects international appreciation for Qatar's role in advancing peace efforts globally, alongside the personal contributions of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The newspaper highlighted Qatar's mediation efforts in resolving international conflicts, including in Lebanon, Sudan, Iran, Afghanistan, Chad, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the Russia-Ukraine war and the war in Gaza. It also noted Qatar's successful mediation between Kenya and Somalia, which ended a five-month-long dispute in May 2021, and the peace agreement in Chad facilitated by Qatar in August 2022.
Qatar's efforts were also crucial in securing a prisoner exchange deal between the United States and Iran in August 2024, where five Iranian detainees were released from the US, and $6 billion of Iranian funds were unfrozen while five American detainees were freed and transported via Doha back to their home country. Al-Arab concluded its editorial by quoting HE Prime Minister's speech at the award ceremony, where he accepted the award on behalf of Qatar, its people, and its leadership.
Meanwhile, Al-Watan daily described the award as a culmination of significant efforts led by His Excellency in advancing Qatar's contributions to global peace. The paper highlighted His Excellency's speech at the ceremony in Ireland, commending HH the Amir as a model of leadership and noting the significance of Ireland's peace journey. The paper reaffirmed Qatar's active mediations across various global conflicts, emphasizing ongoing efforts in Gaza.
The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, noted that Qatar has emerged as a model of stability in the Middle East and North Africa region. The country's consistent leadership in the Global Peace Index (GPI) underscores its success in creating a secure society, ranking as the most peaceful country in the region for the seventh time in the 2025 edition of the GPI.
Despite geopolitical tensions, Qatar continues to pursue a path of cooperation and moderation, The Peninsula pointed out. The paper emphasized Qatar's ability to remain resilient amid external pressures, highlighting its strategic planning and institutional strength. Qatar's soft-power strategy and diplomatic approach have elevated its international profile, earning it trust as a neutral mediator in defusing regional tensions.
