Doha:The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) engaged in discussions about investment opportunities and partnership prospects between the private sectors of Qatar and the US state of Maryland with Harry Coker Jr., Maryland's Secretary of Commerce, along with his delegation during their visit.
According to Qatar News Agency, Sheikh Nawaf Nasser bin Khaled Al-Thani, a QBA board member, reiterated the QBA's commitment to enhancing relations with economic entities and the business community in the United States. He stressed the importance of creating direct channels between Qatari investors and American companies to foster more substantial investments and long-term commercial partnerships, highlighting the already strong economic ties between Qatar and the United States.
The discussions emphasized broadening cooperation between the private sectors of Qatar and Maryland, focusing on sectors such as technology, healthcare, energy, and logistics. This aligns with the mutual interest in exploring investment and partnership opportunities in these high-value-added areas.
Maryland's strategic location in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, with its transportation and logistics infrastructure, offers companies and investors access to key markets along the US East Coast. Harry Coker Jr. noted the state's significant presence of research institutions and universities, which have fostered an ecosystem that integrates scientific research, innovation, and commercial investment.
Biotechnology and healthcare were identified as crucial areas for potential collaboration, with Maryland hosting a major cluster of companies and research institutions in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical fields. The state's proximity to major US federal research and regulatory agencies further enhances its appeal.
Both parties underscored the importance of fostering direct business communication, exchanging trade delegations, and promoting available investment opportunities and incentives. They discussed identifying projects in which the Qatari private sector might participate as an investment partner, while supporting Maryland companies wishing to use Qatar as a gateway to expand into regional markets.
The participants expressed a desire to maintain ongoing communication and coordination in the future, aiming to establish practical mechanisms to follow up on discussed opportunities. This initiative is expected to strengthen economic and investment relations and open new horizons for the private sector.
