Doha: The global oncology platform OncoDaily has named HE Chairman of the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al-Thani, among the Top 100 Most Influential Figures in Oncology for 2025. This recognition highlights the advanced position of Qatar in cancer control efforts on both regional and global stages.
According to Qatar News Agency, this selection underscores the growing global influence of Qatari healthcare leadership in shaping health policies and advancing oncology services in line with international best practices. It also emphasizes the vital role of QCS as a national model in patient support, community awareness, and fostering strategic partnerships, which enhance Qatar's presence on global oncology platforms and promote collaboration and knowledge exchange with international entities.
On this occasion, HE Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Jabr Al-Thani expressed his profound pride in the recognition, stating it represents a collective national effort in cancer control rather than an individual achievement. He remarked, "This international recognition reflects the confidence of the global medical community in Qatar's integrated healthcare approach, which focuses on prevention, early detection, and advanced treatment, placing the patient at the center of care, supported by our wise leadership that prioritizes human health."
He further added, "We regard this honor as a doubled responsibility that motivates us to continue our work, further develop our programs and services, and strengthen national and international partnerships to ensure comprehensive and sustainable support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families, while improving their quality of life during treatment and after recovery."
Founded in 1997 as a charitable organization under the supervision of the Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities, QCS serves as a key national pillar in Qatar's cancer control ecosystem. The organization operates with a vision of a cancer-aware community and improved life for those affected by the disease, driven by donations and community partnerships to provide awareness programs, financial and psychosocial support, and contribute to professional development and research in oncology.
QCS's accomplishments in 2025 included supporting approximately 1,750 adult and pediatric patients at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research and Sidra Medicine, with an estimated cost of QAR 49 million. In psychosocial support, 1,200 individuals benefited directly from community programs, while digital platforms reached over 40,000 indirect beneficiaries, and 50 survivors received specialized psychological support.
Sustainable initiatives like "Our Children Are Gold" for pediatric patients and "Your Smile is Our Life" for adults, alongside awareness campaigns, reached over 6,659,500 indirect beneficiaries through digital channels and 18,950 direct participants through workshops and field activities across Qatar.
In professional development and research, the total number of beneficiaries reached 16,248, reflecting QCS's role in strengthening competencies and contributing to sustainable development goals. The Society also recorded significant milestones, including winning the Qatar Social Responsibility Award 2025 and hosting the global Relay for Life event, alongside establishing 17 strategic partnerships and implementing over 80 awareness initiatives in collaboration with educational and institutional entities.
