QRCS Launches New Project to Aid War-Affected Populations in Yemen

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has initiated a significant project in Yemen aimed at delivering essential health, nutrition, and financial assistance to those impacted by the ongoing conflict in Al Hudaydah Governorate's Al Zaydiyah and Al Dahi districts.

According to Qatar News Agency, the project is funded by a USD 1 million grant from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' (OCHA) Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF). The initiative targets over 55,000 displaced and local beneficiaries, with a special emphasis on children under five years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

The project is structured around three primary components. Firstly, health services will be enhanced through the operation of four health facilities, including two hospitals and two health centers. These facilities will be equipped with necessary medications, medical supplies, and equipment, alongside funding for staff remunerations. The health services offered will encompass primary health care, reproductive health, C-sections, emergency care, medical referrals, and mental health services.

Secondly, the nutrition component aims to combat acute malnutrition among children and women by establishing infant and child feeding centers, organizing community screening campaigns, and conducting food and hygiene awareness sessions. These efforts are designed to prevent and reduce malnutrition within the community.

Lastly, the project includes cash assistance, providing direct, multi-purpose payments to the most vulnerable families. This financial support is intended to help families meet their basic needs and ease economic burdens related to food expenses and healthcare access.
